April 22, 2009
Janesville
Rock County
Shot to death by her former boyfriend, Kyle E. Hicke, 37. Kyle Hicke shot Erica Ostensen repeatedly while she was in front of her home and in the presence of her five-year-old son. He fled the scene of the homicide and was apprehended after a high-speed chase. Between 1995 and 2010 he was arrested and convicted of domestic-abuse-related charges on five occasions. Because of the convictions he was prohibited from owning a gun.
