The Power of We: Utilizing Multicultural Leadership Principles

This year, we welcome featured presenter Juana Bordas, author of Salsa, Soul, and Spirit: The Power of Diversity, and President of Mestiza Leadership International--a company that focuses on leadership, diversity, and organizational change.  Additionally, Wisconsin presenters will offer workshops exploring  topics related to domestic violence, trauma, and pathways to individual leadership.

Featured guest speakers at this year’s training include:

  • Lisa Brunner from the National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center, who will explore historical trauma and the development of sexual assault programming within tribal communities
  • Bev Scow and Alice Skenandore from Wise Women Gathering Place, who will deepen the discussion about developing and sustaining connections among different communities and programs

At this event, participants will: acquire education tools, including a Power Point Presentation, for future use; discuss Health Care Reporting Requirements; and gain the knowledge, skills and resources needed to educate local health systems professionals about:

  • How to safely and effectively screen for domestic violence.

Wausau

Directors of Wisconsin tribal and non-tribal domestic violence and dual programs are invited to attend this semiannual meeting to share and learn from each other. WCADV co-sponsors the meeting with American Indians Against Abuse and the Wisconsin Coalition Against Sexual Assault.

Madison

Core Advocacy is a two-day training that addresses advocacy as a philosophical approach and a set of skills and activities that flows from that philosophy. We will explore concrete ways for advocates to connect with/support survivors, and navigate systems survivors often access. Restraining Order Training is a one-day interactive training that is highly recommended for any advocate who will assist individuals to obtain restraining orders.
