Child Victim Advocate ( part time)

The Child Victim Advocate will provide direct services to children who have witnessed domestic violence ( individually and in support groups) and provide direct services to parents related to their parenting concerns. Qualified candidates will have a strong background in program development, past experience working with victims of domestic and sexual abuse, and past experience working with youth.   

 

Other duties include:

  • Planning and facilitating  support groups for children who have witnessed domestic violence
  • Providing community education and prevention with youth.
  • Answer agency crisis line, assess for immediate safety and provide advocacy and referrals
  • Advocate for clients with other agencies and systems as needed
  • Document contacts and services and contribute to statistical reports for funding and program evaluation
  • Work collaboratively with area providers
  • On call during non-business hours a minimum of three shifts per month for SANE advocacy

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice, Social Work, Psychology, or related field preferred
  • Education and/or experience and knowledge working with victims of sexual assault and/or domestic abuse, and trauma informed care practices
  • Experience working with children individually and in group settings
  • Understanding of child development and the effects of domestic abuse on children
  • Experience with crisis intervention and/or crisis counseling
  • Experience with civil and criminal court system preferred
  • Experience in public speaking and/or program development preferred
  • Good listening and communication skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Possess open, non-judgmental attitude towards victims of domestic and sexual abuse regardless of specific situation, culture, race, religion, size, sexual/gender identity or physical ability
  • Be able to work alone and with minimal supervision
  • Be able to maintain confidentiality and work with clients around sensitive issues
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends
  • Must have reliable transportation
