SYSTEMS BASED ADVOCATE (Full Time)
Employer:Sojourner Family Peace Center
This position will work within the Milwaukee County Restraining Order Clinic and District Attorney’s Office to provide services, support and assistance to domestic violence victims from a diverse background. This will require the advocate to help clients understand and navigate the civil and criminal court systems processes, explore their options and rights when utilizing these systems, develop safety plans and access needed community resources. The includes, but is not limited to; providing legal advocacy to victims of domestic abuse, harassment, individuals at risk and child abuse seeking temporary restraining orders and injunctions, facilitating interaction between victims and the Assistant District Attorneys and accompanying clients to legal proceedings as necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS: Requires a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in social work, criminal justice, communication, human resources of relevant field. Minimum two years professional experience in advocacy, case management, human resources or related field; or a combination of education and experience. Knowledge of the domestic violence victim advocacy service system through direct experience, curriculum development and/or group facilitation preferred. Bilingual Spanish preferred. Must have own transportation and a valid driver’s license.
