Action Alert from Wisconsin Network for Immigrant and Refugee Rights

WCADV is part of the Wisconsin Network for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (WNIRR). There are many similarities between the victory of achieving a strong VAWA reauthorization and the hopefully successful push for comprehensive immigration reform. In fact, protections for immigrant victims of domestic violence were a source of contention in Congress during the reauthorization process. WINRR just sent this action alert drawing the connections between VAWA and comprehensive immigration reform and asking folks to express their disappointment with Sen. Johnson for his NO vote on VAWA. Please see below and take action today.

Action Item:

1. Call Senator Johnson at (202) 224-5323

 2. My name is (____) and I am a constituent from (City). I am calling to express my disappointment with Senator Johnson's vote on VAWA.  Senator Johnson wanted a bill that would fail to protect all victims of domestic violence specifically undocumented, and indigenous women and the LGBT community. As our senator we are calling on you to provide good leadership for an immigration reform bill with a path to citizenship that treats Wisconsin's immigrant families with dignity.

Have a few extra minutes to spare?

Call Congressman Ryan to applaud his decision on VAWA  (608) 752-4050

My name is (____) and I am a constituent from (City). I am calling thank you for voting in favor of the Violence Against Women's Act which protects undocumented women along with indigenous and LGBT communities. Please continue to provide good leadership on an immigration reform bill with a path to citizenship that treats Wisconsin's immigrant families with dignity.
